Amazing quality picture from beginning to end.  Mention of Meredith Monroe in the opening credits as special appearance.

First deleted scene is of Joey:

New York City skyline – segue to Joey in her editing office.  Joey is leaving a message for Gail, saying she’s sorry that she cannot attend the wedding.  She then talks to a co-worker saying that she can’t go because it's her one year anniversary with Christopher.

Second deleted scene is of Joey and Christopher at her apartment:

Joey is packing for her trip with Christopher.  They are going to a cabin on Walden’s Pond.  He goes and takes a shower, and she finds the ring in the drawer and panics and puts it back.

Third deleted scene is of Pacey and Doug at the Icehouse:

They are discussing various topics such as Jack and Maddie.  Doug wants to be “Doug and gay” and Pacey wants to be “Pacey and bad”.  They both know there are decisions that they need to make, and the choices that they are making now are affecting them in their personal lives.  They are both unhappy.  Plus, Pacey has a boat!  There is mention that he took Maddie sailing the weekend before.

Fourth deleted scene of Joey and Dawson at a car rental place:

Dawson is trying to get into his car, and can’t because its not his, it’s Joey’s.  They look really happy and surprised to see each other.  It’s very bittersweet. Dawson never returned Joey’s emails and she wondered why.  They hug and realize that they are both in a hurry and can’t chat long.  Their reunion is cut short by a loud, obnoxious patron.

Fifth deleted scene is of Joey, Jen, Grams & Bessie at the B&B:

Joey is discussing why she came home for the wedding, about how she panicked and was scared and doesn’t want to marry Christopher.  She looks to Grams for advice, and she says that if you feel that way about someone, then they are not the one.  To which Joey replies, “If he’s not the one for me, then who is? “  Camera pans to EVERYONE with looks of “DUH” on their faces.  Joey, still clueless as ever.  We are then lead to believe that Grams is dying.

First extended scene is of Joey and Pacey seeing each other for the first time in 5 years:

They talk about “The Creek” and how they are now on TV and how their lives are being depicted.  Pacey shows Joey the poster of the TV show proudly displayed in the Icehouse and how proud he is of Dawson.

Second extended scene is of the entire cast at the table in the Icehouse:

They talk about Eve and Pacey being with Ms. Jacobs & Andie.  Funniest line was when Jen says, “And Abby Morgan!”  The gang looks angry.  Jen replies, “Oh, is she not funny yet?”

Third extended scene is of Dawson and Joey’s wedding:

I’m sorry, but it’s worse than what was aired.  The wedding is just an extension of more stupid things between Dawson and Joey.  They go on to talk about Eddie, Jen having sex with Dawson,   Then Joey says the kicker,  “We’re just star crossed, ill-fated soul mates.”

Fourth extended scene is of Pacey and Jen at the wedding:

Pacey gets a pain killer from Jen and they start to talk about how Pacey is like George Bailey from “It’s a Wonderful Life” and how “this is it” this is all that we get (see scene with Pacey and Joey later on, this is mentioned).

Sixth deleted scene is of Dawson and Gail at the wedding in the house:

Dawson is working and “hiding” from Joey and everyone else, and Gail convinces him to go outside, he does, and we go to the Seventh deleted scenewhere he finds Joey talking amongst guests, and then they leave, to have Pacey walk up to her.  Dawson looks on affectionately and smiles seeing them happy together.  Then Pacey tells Joey, "Do you know what this reminds me of?"  And she says, “What?”, he says, “Dance lessons.”  They both discuss about how they did take those lessons, and care to relive them on the dance floor.  So they do and Dawson looks on.

Eight deleted scene is of Doug and Jack at the wedding:

Very quick scene, basically they are cross with each other and the way their relationship is going.  It appears that they may be ending, but you know there is more to be said.

Other small deleted/cut scenes:

We see Joey, Pacey and Dawson in the car.  Not much on the extension of this scene.

Joey goes to the B&B and talks with Bessie and tells her that she is not going to marry Christopher and that she will not let him get a chance to propose.

Ninth deleted scene is of Dawson and Lily watching Harold and Maude:

They go on to discuss why it was okay for Maude to die, and how they were soul mates and that they at least were a part of each others lives.  Lily asks, “What’s a soul mate?” and Dawson explains.  In all honesty, not being mocking, Lily is not that interested after Dawson gives the description, and asks, “Okay, can I have your room?”

Tenth deleted scene is of Andie and Pacey at the hospital:

We see that Jack brings Andie to see Pacey and Jen after Pacey showed the video tape to Jen.  He’s happy to see her, as is Jen…then we show them talking about their lives.  Andie and Pacey discuss how they’ve both helped each other grow, and Pacey says, “You were the first, Andie.  The first to test me and challenge me.”    They talk about how happy she is and how great she looks.  We also see Andie and Jack watching Jen sleep.  *note: Kevin and Paul comment on this and mention that it really would have never worked putting Andie and Pacey back together.  She was gone for too long, and that they really didn’t need to have them back together, but for Pacey and Andie to say, “Thank You” to each other.  It was very sweet.  But short.  L

Final scene:

An amazing montage.  It’s truly wonderful.   It goes from the very first season to the very end. I hate to say it to the D/Jo fans, but there are many scenes of Pacey and Joey.  It’s very centered around them for a good portion of the montage. We do get scenes of Dawson and Joey in the beginning, however, it doesn't come off very lovey.  They do show the first D/Jo and P/Jo kisses of Season One, and then carry over to Season Three with other cast members being shown throughout. The ending of the montage is of Pacey and Joey sailing away on the True Love.   When that fades…it shows the cast walking on the beach just like they did in the TV airing.

Commentary with Paul Stupin and Kevin Williamson

This is not complete, however I did pretty much "watch" and listen to all of their comments, it was just that they tend to ramble about NOTHING related to the episode.

Summarizing what Kevin said about writing the ending:

Kevin wrote a script with Dawson and Joey as the couple to end the show.  However, he did not feel that this was right, and needed some help with making sure that the show was going in that direction.  He called up Paul and they discussed it, and realized that Pacey and Joey would be the couple that would work.  They were the true ending.  So they feverishly re-wrote the script and thought that it was, "perfect".

Paul: "This sort of starts to set up that Joey and Dawson are intended for each other."  "And I certainly think that that comes to mind the whole notion when we started the question is did you know who Joey would end up with?"

Kevin: "Yes, and I will say that when I set down to write this, Joey and Dawson were going to end up together, folks.  And I did write it."

Paul: "And in this first hour, which was shot before the second hour, was written with the intent that setting up the fact that these two soul mates are finally going to come together."

Kevin: "Yes, and we'll talk about it as we go through it, but when I sat down to write this one, and even when I wrote the second one, I did write Joey and Dawson together.

Paul: "And then I remember that you called me!"

Kevin: "I called you Paul and I said, ' Is this the way to do it? ' ,  and we talked and we changed our minds!"

-- And it worked.  It just seemed to work.  And you know what?  It felt right, because in my mind Dawson and Joey do end up together, as friends and as soul mates.  That it goes beyond romantic love [because this is his vision that they do not need to be romantic to still be part of each others lives], and it serves as a mislead for the episode.  And in my mind, everyone wins.   But you know, when I went around asking people who their soul mates were, the answers you got was not the one that you were in love with or having a relationship with or even their spouse.  It was usually just a best friend from childhood."

Kevin and Paul talk about the "Triangle" and Andie's roll in coming back:

Paul: When writing this first hour, the thought was that Joey and Dawson would end up together.  So that begged the question, well what’s going to happen with Pacey?  And how can Pacey be romantically fulfilled at the end of this?  And that’s part of the reason why we brought Meredith Monroe back.

Kevin:  yeah, we brought Meredith Monroe back to basically serve as, and I hate to say it, but as a consolation prize to Pacey.  And even when I was writing it, I felt how false that was.  A consolation prize?

Paul: I know, because when you think about it, it’s kind of depressing.

Kevin: Yes, depressing and I couldn’t go to bed a night, and think, that’s how Andie is to Pacey.  And to give that to the audience, I don’t believe it.  I don’t believe it and I think that Andie should be a ‘red herring’.

Paul: I tell you when she does show up…she’s beautiful – and I think well that’s one hell of a consolation prize!

Kevin: But the story from what I understand from watching the shows that happened afterwards [after season 1 & 2], so much had developed between Pacey and Joey, that the show had become about the triangle and them as the core.  And I just wanted to satisfy.

… [and I’m so happy] that everyone gets to see [Andie] how amazing she looks.  And she’s such an important character [Andie], because as you will see in the scene, because this is one of the scenes that I re-wrote when I knew that Pacey and Joey would end up together, you see that she has a moment, a place in Pacey’s life, and it’s very important to hear what Pacey has to say to her in order for him to get over his last bit of immaturity.

Paul: So it does work with having her in this new structure.

Kevin: So here we have the triangle all alone, and all these undercurrents going on. [scene of Joey saying goodbye to Pacey and Dawson] -  What I like about this is look how it was done, still a little awkward with Dawson, but Pacey just grabbed her like they’ve been together their whole lives and just hugged her and there’s that undeniable chemistry that Pacey and Joey have.

Paul talking about internet script leaks:

Paul: “I tell you one of my frustrations over the years has been that whenever we would send an outline with an interesting plot twist or send a script wanted to keep at least preliminary out of sort of everyone’s minds, invariably it would lead, and we’d read about it on the internet a few days later.  And I remember in this one there was a lot of talk that Joey and Dawson were going to end up together, and so the minute your first draft hit Wilmington, a day later I go on the internet and there’s everyone who wanted Joey and Pacey to get together complaining like, ‘Aww, hell.’.”  And it’s just one of those things when a piece of material goes down to a group of 80 to 90 people in a production area out there, it’s going to end up getting out.”

Kevin explains about why Joey's choice is important:

Kevin: "Will Joey choose Dawson or Pacey?  Who's she going to choose?  And what is going to make that mean something?  How is it going to be forever?  When we end this show, how will we know that these people are going to be together forever?  And in someone's death, that monumental, you make decisions that are life ground, that are real and solid, and will stick.  It's just sort of brings an epic finality."

Defining what a 'soul mate' is and why Dawson and Joey didn't end up together

Paul: In this first hour, it was originally written to have Dawson and Joey end up together. And again, after that phone call that you and I had where we agreed that it should be Joey and Pacey, you went back and you re-jiggled all of this.

Kevin: Yes, cause well honestly, Maggie was responsible for most of this, and I think that she did a beautiful job it was sort of, this is where it seemed more than ever that Pacey and Joey belonged together, because what Maggie wrote was so strong in this speech [Dawson's soul mate speech] which I felt like, you know that is what a soul mate is. And that's what Dawson and Joey are to each other, but that's not necessarily who, well I just don't see that their lives, I don't know, I just don't see them together, living day to day to day.

About the Dawson and Joey Fans - and final scene of Dawson & Joey

Paul:  “A scene that will leave all the Dawson and Joey fans satisfied”

Kevin laughs, then Paul laughs.  *they both continue to laugh and snicker*

Kevin:  “Uh, I don’t know about that.  We’ve got some pretty “passionate” D/Jo fans out there.

Kevin & Paul: But if you really listen to what Dawson is saying, there is no way that they are going to end up together. Dawson and Joey, you know that it’s over."

Discussion:  How should the show end?  Who is the better couple? (Pacey/Joey 1st kitchen scene)

Paul: "Everyone went to go off to college, and the challenge was creating this passion for cooking that Pacey had.  And it's nice to see that he's running this restaurant, and we see that he's obviously lovely at it and adapted to, there he is slicing there..."

Kevin: "And we very slyly set up that he may end up in New York City with a restaurant of his own."

Paul: "Yes, exactly.  So this is the first little set up that you'll notice for clarifying and ultimately pointing out who's getting together,  Joey and Pacey."

Kevin: "And what the difference between the first hour and this hour is we clearly knew who was ending up with who, and also all signs point to it."

Paul: "And I remember there was some nervousness I think we both had, that how would James react to the fact that here we started off where we thought that he and Joey were going to end up together, and ultimately I know that you called up James...

Kevin: "....and he was okay with it.  And I don't want to speak for anyone else here, but I do know that Josh called me, and he was thrilled with it.  You know, and he really felt that he believe it, and he really felt it.  And I think that everyone ultimately did."

Paul: "Because when I do look back on how we've played out this triangle over the years and the seasons, it does seem that the most passion has existed and the most sort of grand romance was really between Joey and Pacey. Here they had an epic journey on a sailboat all over the world."

Kevin, "Yeah!  And they just also have a wonderful chemistry between them.  The interplay between the two of them, just this moment right here, thrown' food.  And you know, I wrote ' food fight ' , and this is what they did with it.  And I'm just thrilled that they did, and that was not in the script, ad-libbing.  It's just adorable."

Last scene with Pacey and Joey in the kitchen

I want to point out that Pacey's speech was not written by Kevin, however, the remainder of the P/Jo scene was:

Kevin: This is sort of where Pacey’s heads face is, cause next time we see him, he’s going to be in the kitchen and he’s about to say, ‘ Joey, time is nobody’s friend, and I got to get okay with that And move on ’. So this is the set up to what’s about to come. Where he basically thanks her, the same as he did with Andie, ‘You’re off the hook’ and I’m determined to move on’, and I must tell you that I had rewrote this again and again and again, and heaven forbid, I have to tell you who’s reasonable for this little sequence, this little monologue that he gives,

*Paul: Who?* , Julie Pleck (sp?). *Paul: Really?* She has been working with me on ‘ Kurst” and she came back and started spitting out, ‘No! This is what Pacey should say’, and I’m sitting here typing it, in the trailer while were filming another movie, she goes, ‘Pacey should say ‘You’re off the hook’ and this, and this’, and she’s just sort of spouting it all off, and I’m saying, slow down, slow down, and I’m typing as fast as I can and finally I say, you sit down and write it.”

*more discussion about how so many people, old writers and producers came back to collaborate for the finale*

Kevin: “Let me just tell you how brilliant Paul Stupin is…”
Paul: “Oh I love hearing that. No problem!”

Kevin: “What he does is in Joey’s response, it gave it away, Joey’s response gives her decision away. So what the brilliant Paul Stupin did was reedit it and move what statement above the other statement, and brought one down. So it was more confusing than ever. And it really gives him a reason to respond the way he responds. It really did. She plays it as if she’s telling him, ‘It’s you honey!’.”

Paul: “ Originally she mentioned that she loves Dawson before she told the whole thing that she loves Pacey, and you and I both felt that basically that gives it away that she’s still going to be with Pacey.”

Kevin: “And we wanted to hold the suspense till the last beat.”

Paul: “Yes, so we had her say that she loved Pacey first, then pause and then we moved the whole talk about Dawson later on in the speech.

*Kevin: “Just to confuse him.” Yeah! And you know what, it’s confusing to me!”

Kevin: “Oh, okay! Here it is! [Joey telling Pacey to not miss her point] It’s like, what are you trying to say? *laughter*

Paul: “And again, the whole idea is to string out the finale revelation of who she’s going to end up with, until the very end. And what a hard thing to do to make it heartfelt and powerful and still for all of us, confusing as hell.” *laughs*

Kevin: “They do a really good job. And I think again that Josh does great with his little, ‘ You’re off the hook’ speech. And he even brought some stuff to it too, the lines that he added to it.”

Paul: “But you had some lines about her love for Pacey was, ‘ The way a women loves a man’, *Kevin: Yes, yes* and that sounded again too definitive…

Kevin: “Too definitive that Dawson and I are childhood, was a childhood love, innocent and pure, me loving you was the first time I loved a man, and as a woman. And that was too much, it gave it away. Cut, cut, cut. So that ended on the editing room floor or really in the editing room hard drive. And see, here it is first of all, they don’t get to finish their conversation. First mom enters, this is my way of letting her character enter because this is the last time that you are going to get to see this woman in this show forever, and it’s a say goodbye. And Bessie enters in and this is to say goodbye, this is her curtain call. Goodbye everyone. And it was just sort of my way to say goodbye to this two supporting characters who we have loved dearly.”

Paul: “Pacey’s confused! You know if I was Pacey, I would have said, ‘Stay here and explain all this!’, but he lets her walk away.”

Kevin: “Well we had to simple for the device of saving the surprise. And also she’s being pulled away to deal with mourners.”

Montage Overview

Paul and Kevin talk over the montage and Kevin is excited that he gets to see it because it is the first time. And yes, it had to be cut for time.

It is played over "Say Goodnight, Not Goodbye" by Beth Nielsen Chapman.

Paul: The thought was to put all our characters from their lives over the course of these six years, so you can follow the story. [to what we ended with] And it's not incredibly linear, but I think it hits all the key moments. and hear we see all the emotion and power between Dawson, Joey, and here's Joey and Kerr..

Kevin: Oh! and there's Michelle before she pukes over the white picket fence! I love that!

Paul: and there's Joey running away [from Dawson from "The Dance & #222]

Kevin: I love watching Joey running away. And oh! [shows scene of Pacey watching Joey sleep]

Paul: And there she is offering herself to him.....and there's the karaoke scene. [shows D/Jo and Pacey watching them sing] .. and that's when Joey kissed Pacey.

Kevin: Oh, I don't remember all these! *Paul laughs* I don't think I saw all these episodes.

Paul: *laughs* No, I think you've seen a couple. *laughs again*

Kevin: No, you know I think when I watch these in the morning, and I go, ' My God, how did this one get by me!' "

[Then they show scenes from "True Love" - and we see Dawson and Joey on the dock and Dawson doing "the face" and Joey running away and then being on the boat with Pacey]

Paul: [watching the scene where Pacey and Joey jump off the boat in #401] Oh and there the boat! And that was one of the final images that we wanted to put in there of the boat, and Joey and Pacey.

[scene comes up from the Graduation episode]

Kevin: Never saw this one.

Paul: This turned out, this was great episode.

Kevin: I have never saw it, and I wanted to see it. And I have it of course, because you send me a tape every week, thank you very much. *laughter*

Paul: and now these are certain scenes from the last seasons. As we're getting closer, nearer to the finale. And there's Dawson sitting at his fathers grave..
Kevin: Aww...yup, saw that one.

Paul: And again, these are just our characters...and there we see the sun...and the boat sailing off into the sunset...[from the "True Love" episode]

And then they both discuss about the last shot of the season 1 shot from the main title of them walking on the beach..

I haven’t watched the deleted pilot scenes since most of them were from that unaired pilot which many of you have seen.  I will go back and watch the pilot alternate endings and report back on that.  But to answer questions, no, there was never a FILMED alternate ending of Dawson and Joey.  Ever.

I'm sorry if this comes off as a Pacey and Joey fan perspective, but I really wanted to let you all know that a lot of what was cut or not shown was because it revealed too much that Pacey and Joey would be together, or it really wasn't that important of a scene.  Kevin and Paul discussed that topic a lot.  So, I hope I didn’t miss anything, however, if you have questions about certain things, let me know.
